What If There Isn’t a Toddler Sleep Consultant Near Me?

August 14, 2020

If you’ve been following my blog or social media for any amount of time, you may find yourself saying: “Sleep training seems great. But what if there isn’t a toddler sleep consultant near me?” You might be surprised to learn that many of the clients I work with reside outside of the Philadelphia area. Technology has its perks!

Global practice

I’ve been fortunate enough to work with tired parents across the globe through teleconferencing and phone calls. I don’t need to work with your family in-person. However, if you are in the Philadelphia area, I’m more than happy to meet in-person (when we’re not amid a pandemic). I think you’ll find it reassuring to know that despite your location or amidst any health concerns, I can support you as an infant sleep consultant.

Which sleep consultant is right for me?

Now that you know that you don’t need to have a sleep consultant near you, it’s time to figure out how to hire an infant or toddler sleep consultant. If you’ve ever hired a sitter, then you’ll be familiar with the process. While you won’t necessarily be leaving your baby alone with the consultant, you want to feel a similar level of trust.

Many of the families I work with want to know my philosophy of sleep training. I’m almost always asked if the Sleep Sense method involves crying it out. When I provide a brief overview of how things work, parents have a good idea of whether working with me is a good fit for them. But, some families may still be on the fence, which is why I suggest digging deeper when choosing a consultant that’s a good match.

What should I ask?

Word-of-mouth recommendations are the best way to find any service, but what if none of your friends or family have worked with a pediatric sleep consultant? The next best thing is to take a look at reviews and testimonials. When you’ve narrowed down your choices, ask prospective consultants for references.

Suppose the references haven’t helped narrow your choices. In that case, I suggest referring back to your list of must-have preferences and comfortability points. Would you prefer someone licensed in a medical field or a parent who’s been in a similar situation? Do you feel like your concerns will be taken into consideration throughout the process? What is the promised outcome from the services offered, and does it meet your needs? Most importantly, do you feel that the consultant is caring and sensitive to both you and your baby? Finally, you should gauge whether the consultant is experienced enough to work towards your desired outcome.

With over seven years of experience, I’ve had the privilege of working with more than a hundred families to help their babies become independent and healthy sleepers. Through teleconferences, phone calls, and emails, I’ve helped families across the globe and time zones.

If you’re interested in discovering whether working with me is the right choice for your family, give me a call! I offer a complimentary 15-minute phone consultation for new families.
