Tips for Creating a Great Bedtime Routine

January 27, 2013

My sleep tip for today has to do with bedtime routines for your baby or young child.

A bedtime routine is something you can start at a very early age. It’s a good habit to get into and it is an excellent cue to the body and the mind that it is time to settle down and get ready for sleep.

A bedtime routine should last approximate 20 – 30 minutes and should be exactly the same every night. Children love consistency! At least some of the routine should take place in the child’s bedroom or sleeping area. This let’s them know that bedtime is near and that their room is a comfortable and nice place to be and spend time in.

The routine should be enjoyable to both the parent and child and should become an excellent quality time between you and your child.
