When Should You Hire a Sleep Coach for Your Baby?

Ahh, the early days of parenting. Perhaps you’re in that period when your newborn is adjusting to day and night, or you have a hungry baby who wakes every hour or so. No matter the cause, you are desperate for sleep and looking for help. If you’re wondering when the right time is to hire a sleep coach for your baby, this is the blog for you.

Hiring a sleep coach for baby

You’re exhausted. You just want your baby to sleep for more than two hours at a time. You’ve likely scoured the internet to discover tips and tricks to get your little one into a healthy sleep routine, but nothing has worked. If you’re considering hiring a sleep coach to work with your family, make sure you research first. Take advantage of phone consults to see if the consultant is the right fit. Sleep training can get a little hairy, so you want to hire someone you feel comfortable with and trust.

Timing is everything

If you have a newborn, you should know that I will not work with a baby under four months of age. The newborn stage is often called the 4th trimester and with good reason. Your baby needs time to adjust to life outside of the womb and they’re growing by leaps and bounds. Because your baby is growing so quickly, their brain and body are undergoing massive changes and need to be fed every 2-3 hours. We don’t want to interrupt your baby’s feeding routine with sleep training, so, for that reason, I do not work with newborns.

Infant sleep training

The earliest I’ll work with infants is around four months of age. By this age, your baby should be sleeping in longer clips, and if that’s not happening, now is the time to introduce infant sleep training.

By this point, your little one should have a predictable sleep schedule with frequent naps during the day. Your infant is at the point where an established routine is possible — and needed — which is where I come into the picture.

I’ll evaluate your nursery to make sure that it’s conducive to healthy sleep, and give you pointers for things you can change — if need be — to help create a snooze-worthy haven for your infant. From there we’ll take a look at your infant’s schedule, and I’ll work with you to create a customized nap and sleep schedule that fits your family’s needs.

Sleep training your toddler

Whether it’s developmental milestones or a year or two of night wakings, you’ve decided that you’re ready to sleep through the night! Never fear, sleep training your toddler is possible, it just may take a couple of weeks to get your tot into a great routine. Not only will I give you an ideal sleep schedule, but I’ll also be your biggest cheerleader and support as you remain consistent through sleep training.
